This iconic photograph of the teenage Krayolas was taken by Mark Ellis in August 1977. The band had just returned from Dallas after winning the KTFM Battle of the Bands at Sunken Garden Theater. The first prize was to go to Six Flags and play on a bill with Chuck Berry. Guitarist Van Baines - who was with the band at Six Flags and who played guitar on The Krayolas first 45 r.p.m. record 'All I Do Is Try'/'Sometime' recorded earlier that year - left the band shortly before this picture was taken. That's replacement guitarist Patrick Wetmore in the photo. Van Baines returned to the band in the early 1980s. From the 'Aw Tonight' photo session. Lead Guitarist Van Baines circa 1982 preparing for The Krayolas live radio broadcast from Rockefellers in Houston, Texas. The finished 'Aw Tonight' 45 r.p.m. sleeve created almost as much of a sensation as did The Krayolas infamous 'cave man' appearance in-concert at Sunken Garden Theatre before 10,000 people in 1978. The loincloth was held together by one safety pin. It was 'The Who Sell Out' and 'The Flintstones' rocking the mosh pit. The B-side was the raucous Barry Smith-penned classic 'Roadrunner,' which featured the notorious Jett Bass on lead vocals. The four-day 'Big Dance' music and sports event attracted huge crowds and featured stars such as Kid Rock, Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy and All American Rejects. The Krayolas performed at the Alamodome in November 2007 for the announcement of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. The Krayolas were named grand marshal of the 2007 Ford Holiday River Parade, a televised event viewed by 44.5 million people across the U.S. More than 200,000 people attend the annual party and tree-lighting ceremony along the River Walk the day after Thanksgiving. The album cover for 'La Conquistadora' is from acclaimed Chicano folk artist and activist David Zamora Casas' large canvas painting 'December 12th El Dia de La Virgen de Guadalupe.'
